How to Review an ESD Packaging Test Report

Confirm the requirements for your actual component and process before ordering.

An electrical result is meaningful only with enough information to identify what was tested and how. Use this checklist when reviewing a proposed packaging material or a supplier's report.

Identify the sample

Look for the material or product code, lot reference, specimen description and date. Ask whether the evidence covers the proposed configuration or a different sample. Record any differences for the person responsible for approval.

Read the method and conditions

Check the method and revision, measured property and units, equipment, conditioning and measurement conditions. Request clarification if essential information is absent. Do not apply one fixed test voltage or humidity setting to every product and method.

Compare against the agreed requirement

Use the purchase specification to evaluate the results. Ask how specimens were selected, whether individual results are available, and what happens when the material or process changes. A report for one sample is not evidence that every shipment was tested.

Keep approval traceable

Keep the report, drawing revision and approval decision together. If you need a particular test or shipment document, include it in the enquiry before ordering tubes or carrier tape.
