Heat-Seal vs Pressure-Sensitive Cover Tape: Selection Checklist

Confirm the requirements for your actual component and process before ordering.

Choose cover tape together with the carrier material, sealing equipment and required peel behavior. Neither heat-seal nor pressure-sensitive tape is automatically the better choice for every production volume or component.

Heat-seal configuration

Confirm the proposed tape's sealing instructions and the equipment's ability to control the required process settings. Ask for the settings to be established through trials on the selected carrier material. Do not assume that settings used for another material will transfer unchanged.

Pressure-sensitive configuration

Confirm the application method, pressure and other handling instructions for the proposed product. Evaluate adhesion and removal on the actual carrier. The label alone is not a guarantee of residue-free removal or compatibility.

Compare the complete set

• Carrier material, width and pocket layout.
• Cover width and sealing area.
• Application equipment and operating settings.
• Agreed peel test and acceptance criteria.
• Loaded-tape feeding and pickup behavior.
• Storage and handling instructions for the combination.

Approve samples before changing production

Record the accepted carrier and cover product codes, process settings and drawing revision. Evaluate a proposed substitution rather than approving it on nominal width or price alone. Compare quotations only after these requirements are aligned.
