Planning an ESD Entry Gate: Questions Before Ordering

Confirm the requirements for your actual component and process before ordering.

An entry gate is one part of an access procedure. Selecting one should involve the facility's ESD coordinator, access-control team and safety personnel; a gate by itself does not establish compliance.

Define the entry process

Identify who will use the entrance, which personnel checks are required by the site's procedure, and how visitors and unsuccessful checks will be handled. Specify the required tester integration rather than assuming every gate includes it.

Check the installation

• Measure the available space and required clear passage.
• Document power, network and access-control interfaces.
• Describe expected peak demand and ask how throughput will be demonstrated.
• Have qualified site personnel review emergency egress and accessibility requirements.

Specify the records and acceptance test

If records are required, agree the data fields, storage location, retention and access permissions. Do not assume facial recognition, cloud logging or an HR integration is included. Put the required functions into the quotation and test them before acceptance.
